The textile dyeing & finishing company Sunnytex provided OEM services, often faced with nitpicking traders while cut off from end-clients. Illpositioned, the industry lost one-third companies and many of the rest relocated to Southeast Asia, prompting Sunnytex General Manager Jeffrey Shih to think global and seek direct links with famous brands.
To meet quality demand from those world renowned brands, Sunnytex sharpened its tech edge in a toxin-free, eco-friendly, energy-saving, and positive environment, and, in 2008, earned certification of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and the Bluesign standard. Today, even the world’s top apparel brand VF asks to work with Sunnytex.
For compliance and client needs, eco-minded Sunnytex replaced energy-intensive equipment, adopted coal pyrolysis gasifier, installed heat recover y system, and improved wastewater treatment plant. With energy costs lowered and equipment more efficient, Sunnytex took it further by joining MOEA’s project on SME energy-saving.
Advisors assessed Sunnytex plant processes and greenhouse gas emission, and helped it establish the ISO 50001 energy management system. It also began to use steam generated by Ta-Yuan Cogen, its resource integration partner, without having to hire for boiler maintenance while achieving 10% higher heat efficiency.
Moreover, due to the massive amount of heated water used for desizing machine; the heated waste water discharged from the desizing machine will be reused at heat exchanger and pre-heat the soft water. This plan will effectively increase the energy consumption and production efficiency.
The above actions put Sunnytex to decrease the greenhouse gas emission from 1.57 kg CO2e/ yard to 1.19kg since it joined the MOEA project.
In 2014, the SMEA encouraged Sunnytex to share its accomplished results as a role model for the industry counterparts, hoping to build on Sunnytex’s success story to help rejuvenate the dyeing & finishing industry in Taiwan.
